We love the idea of taking timeless concepts and making them modern again. As a brand, we are dedicated to creating fine jewelry that empowers and inspires women and are known for reinventing iconic jewelry pieces such as lockets, charms, and poesy rings for a new generation.
Some months ago, we connected with the team behind the hit show Bridgerton. We admired the show on many levels, not least of which was that Bridgerton reimagined the style of vintage, regency era fashion inspiring a new trend called “Regencycore.”
Our connection with the Bridgerton team coincided with a planned initiative by its creator Shondaland for a new program, Seat at the Table, where the company will be partnering with the incredibly talented artists from their various productions to create products that are both representative of the creators’ work on their respective shows as well as the creators themselves. Shondaland and their brand partners would work directly with these creators to offer fans authentic and elevated consumer goods to extend their on-screen experiences. Traditionally, craftsmen have not been involved in the extensions of their work through consumer products. Shondaland is committed to changing that and this program, Seat at the Table, is the first step.
We are thrilled to be the first collaboration of this initiative. We worked with Emmy Award winner Ellen Mirojnick, Bridgerton’s acclaimed costume designer, to bring to life a fine jewelry collection that truly encapsulates the romantic world of Bridgerton.
Ellen Mirojnick was the very first creative hire on Bridgerton and set the stage for the look and feel of the Bridgerton universe. It was with her vision, that Bridgerton reimagined the style of vintage, regency era fashion. There was a very specific vision in mind for the Regency era romantic drama, and Mirojnick fell in-step immediately by taking the Regency silhouette for both women and men, and completely turning it on its head.
The fine jewelry Monica and Ellen created together was inspired by romantic, vintage styles that embodied the Bridgerton spirit, while also empowering the women who would wear them.
Monica and Ellen designed three core styles for the collection: a poesy ring, a charm, and a locket. Poesy rings date back as early as the 15th century and bore poetic inscriptions that were exchanged as expressions of friendship, inspiration, and love. The first style Monica and Ellen created was the “Queen” poesy ring that takes the shape of a crown and has the word “queen” engraved inside of the ring. The second style is the “bee” charm, which is an iconic symbol of the Bridgerton Series. The last style is a locket that holds two pictures with elevated vine detailing in the shape of a heart, and when looked upon closely, it is also the letter “B” which is a nod to the Bridgerton family. On the back of the locket, there is a buzzing bee. Each of these 3 styles are made in 18K gold with white diamonds, and sterling silver with white sapphires. The locket and bee styles will be offered as loose charms as well that can be added to MRK’s Design Your Own necklaces and bracelets. The poesy ring is offered as a stackable ring with the option to also purchase it as a necklace.
Our partnership with Shondaland and Netflix will continue into 2023 with future fine jewelry collections also consisting of special, limited-edition pieces.
“Shondaland has always believed that everyone deserves a seat at the table, and we are committed to working in collaboration with the creatives behind the onscreen looks and styles as we create show-inspired products and merchandise,” said Sandie Bailey, Chief Design and Digital Media Officer. “There is power in supporting the next wave of artisans and trailblazers. We are committed to finding ways to partner with women and minority owned businesses and others who embrace the power of storytelling with their craft just as we do.”
From Monica’s perspective, “not only was it exciting to work on the collaboration for a groundbreaking show like Bridgerton, but to be able to work with Ellen Mirojnick, one of the most iconic costume designers in the industry, was an honor. She and I immediately bonded over our passion for vintage jewelry and brought that sensibility to life in the collection. The pieces are a direct nod to the incredible characters and vibe of the show."
