Next week is the final week to see the Charles James: Beyond Fashion exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, and we can't recommend it enough. Monica in particular fell completely in love with Charles James' work upon seeing it, and explained to us why…
"After seeing this exhibit I have a whole new respect for fashion design. Charles James once said, "In fashion even what seems most fragile must be based on cement." This is exactly what he did. The viewer sees how the ball gowns were built to become these incredible works of art. For a woman, wearing one was like becoming a beautiful sculpture. Each fabric and texture is placed with almost mathematical and architectural precision. His choices of mixing those was genius.
The exhibition allows the viewer to mechanically watch the deconstruction and reconstruction of each ball gown, piece by piece. One of my favorites was a ball gown, wrapping a woman up like a cocoon, and then blossoming into a butterfly - metaphorically of course. Only Charles Jame could accomplish that! They are truly iconic pieces of art." - As told by Monica
Charle James: Beyond Fashion runs through August 10th. For more information, click here.
