Paying Homage to Photographer Slim Aarons
Shoot Like Slim
Town and Country Magazine in collaboration with Leica Camera and Exclusive Resorts asked Monica and eight other photographers to create a body of work inspired by the legendary photographer, Slim Aarons. Each of the nine was equipped with a Leica Camera and sent to spend a weekend at an exclusive resort where they could capture their own images in the spirit of this great artist.
The ultimate goal was to work within these wonderful Slim Aarons style categories; Poolside Gossip, Skiing Holiday, Winter Suntans, Family Pool, Underwater Drink, Between Ski and Sky, Top Up, Golfing Pals. Slim Arrons was most famous for photographing celebrities, jet setters and socialites. He never used a stylist or makeup artist. He said of his career that he was “Photographing attractive people doing attractive things in attractive places.”
Mary Aarons, Slim's daughter, curated the final selections from the nine photographers.
"My father spent much of my childhood traveling the world on assignment and I often went with him as his assistant. Mine was not always the typical summer job; writing captions (at a Greek shipping tycoon's yacht party), selecting a dress for a European Princess or being forced to sit on my hands at a Rancho Santa Fe race horse auction," says Mary Aarons. "My Dad's greatest gift to me was that of world travel. During my time with him on the road I learned so much about composition and the technical aspects of photography. To this day, I hear his voice telling me what to do when I'm snapping my own pictures! I could not be more thrilled to work with Exclusive Resorts and Leica on these weekends celebrating my father's work and inspiring new photographers to the see the world through his eyes."

We are pleased to share some of Slim Aarons' images, as well as Monica's work for the project that will be part of a traveling exhibition at Leica galleries throughout the country starting in the fall and extending through 2016.
