Apart from the hoop earring, the huggie earring, and the stud earring, one of the most popular earring styles that belongs in every jewelry box is the drop earring. Generally, the drop earring can take two common forms.%expanded-mobile%
One can be an oversized stud that by itself might be a strong statement on the ear. When part of a drop earring, it is then designed with some sort of dangling drop shape that falls, and sometimes gently sways, just below the bottom edge of the ear lobe.%expanded-desktop%
The other common design in drop earrings is a small hoop or huggie earring that has some type of drop – a stone of some sort being a popular and common design choice. One of the most popular drop earring stones is the pearl. The shimmering, white iridescence of a pearl is the perfect complement to almost any style. While irregularly shaped baroque's pearls can often be found in a pearl drop earring, we opted in our own design for a longer, oval rice-shaped pearl. The shape is more modern, but at the same time endlessly classic given its elongated lines. Sometimes, the right choice of stones for a drop earring might be guided by the metal chosen for that particular design. Gold drop earrings might carry a stone as precious as a diamond, but white topaz or rock crystal might be the right choice to deliver a bigger look while being cut in the shape and faceting of a diamond. Similarly, both of those same materials might be ideal for a sterling silver drop earring as they can deliver a lot of stone drop look for a reasonable cost. In that same vein, blue topaz and prasiolite (green amethyst) might provide just the right splash of color in those silver drop earrings. And while a short, faceted stone drop is common, larger, elongated opacity stones like turquoise, agates, and chrysoprase can deliver larger and increasingly bolder statements.
