  •

Supply Chain

  • We choose our suppliers and manufacturing partners carefully and have long standing relationships with our major factories.

Our Partners

  • Many of our factories have received rigorous certifications from global organizations that create clear sets of standards and best practices for jewelry manufacturing and the workplace. In 2020 approximately 70% of all MRK production will come from factories with these certifications.

All of our factories are formally screened by us for social, workplace and environmental practices with annual updates conducted.

We are proud that some of the environmental initiatives our partner factories have embarked on in 2019-2020 relate to major improvements in water treatment and the installation of solar panels.

Our Diamonds

  • All of our diamonds are ethically sourced under the Kimberly Process Certification and have been since our inception.

  •
  • Recent news coverage has addressed isolated cases of the substitution of lab diamonds for natural diamonds in jewelry without a customers’ knowledge. EVERY diamond in EVERY Monica Rich Kosann jewelry piece is machine scanned three times through its manufacturing journey to ensure all our diamonds are natural and authentic.

  •

Our Precious Metals

  • Our top precious metal suppliers are members of the Responsible Jewelry Council or similar organizations. These bodies provide the highest levels of certification a jewelry manufacturer can receive for supply chain standards in social, ethical and responsible business practices. 97% of our precious metal is sourced from members with these prestigious certifications.

Sustainability

We build our products for a lifetime.

Our Products

  • We build our products for a lifetime. This allows our customers to know they are purchasing pieces with long term value that can be in their families for generations.
  •
  • Inventory efficiency is important to us. We use ongoing smaller batch production methods, and only make what we think our customers will need. This allows for significant reductions in inventory obsolescence and waste.
  •
  • We and our factories have ongoing metal waste programs so that unused waste is melted and returned to the precious metals supply chain.

Recycled Materials

    • We are continuously looking at increasing the amount of our gold usage from post consumer reclaimed gold supplies. More than 70% of all our gold came from these sources.

At the same time, more than 80% of all our sterling silver came from reclaimed metal sources.

In 2017 we launched an ongoing program to use vintage diamonds, approximately 100 years old, in certain special styles that are specifically designed around these stones. It is an initiative that is an ongoing, important part of our gold jewelry collection.
    •

Our Packaging

  • We use shipping boxes made of 70% recycled cardboard and select the smallest shipping box possible for our products, while still providing our luxury brand experience.
  •
  • Our tissue paper is 100% SFI certified and our marketing materials, including our paper jewelry boxes, are 100% FSC certified (SFI and FSC are sustainable forestry programs).
  •

Carbon Neutral Shipping

  • All of our UPS Ground shipping is part of UPS’s carbon offset program. This means for every tonne of CO2 a package produces in transportation, an equivalent amount of CO2 is saved by a verified emission reduction project somewhere else in the world. If you are interested in learning about the specific projects UPS is working on to offset the carbon emissions, you can read about it here.

Renewable Energy

    • Our corporate office is powered completely by renewable energy, it comes from a combination of wind, small hydro, and landfill gas. All energy supplied to us complies with the renewable energy definition in the Connecticut statutes. We work to minimize power usage in our workplace through LED lighting, automatic timers and motion detectors on all lighting to ensure usage only when needed and programable thermostats to raise/lower temperatures to reflect actual office usage and occupancy.

    •

We work to support key factory partners as they build their own renewable energy programs. We have partners whose programs range from early stage development to 100% usage of renewable energy.

Community

  • At Monica Rich Kosann, giving back to our community is very important to us, we have implemented a few programs to help give back.

Monica Cares

  • Under the umbrella of MONICA CARES we have created various giving initiatives with charities as diverse as Blessings in a Backpack, Kips Bay Boys and Girls Club, North Shore Animal League, Women in Need, Girls Who Code, and Embrace Race.
  •

Employee Volunteer Program

  • We offer to our teams a program of Volunteer Days wherein all full time employees can spend a paid work day in the community, or alternatively, Monica Rich Kosann will make a contribution equivalent to their daily salary to a charity of their choice. Some charities chosen by our employees to volunteer or donate to have included the Open Door Shelter, World Central Kitchen, Mikey’s Way & SNAAR Northeast Adoption Center.

MRK is proud to be a

Certified B Corporation®

    • Since the beginnings of our company, how we conduct ourselves has been an important part of our journey and a core part of our culture. Whether it involves our sourcing, our supply chain, our employees, or the environment and communities in which we operate, we have always pursued the highest standards of quality and excellence. As we have grown, we have also attempted to communicate this with transparency, and it was through those efforts that we first came to understand and then worked to join the growing movement around Certified B Corporations®.
