Tomorrow is the 50th Anniversary of Earth Day . We at Monica Rich Kosann had started planning some time ago how to do something meaningful for this special day through our Monica Cares initiative. In the midst of that planning, all of our worlds were turned upside down by the COVID-19 pandemic and crisis. It is a crisis that has affected all in our communities with varying degrees of turmoil and hardship, and in far too many cases has also had the most tragic and deadly consequences.
Recognizing that the impact on all our local communities is not yet fully understood we decided to stay local with our Earth Day initiative. So we reached out to the Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk that is near our corporate office in Connecticut. Monica remembers taking her own kids to the Aquarium so often when they were young ,and has so many fond memories of this magical place as well. All of the local Zoos, Aquariums and Museums are being severely impacted by the stay at home mandates across the country. They have lost revenues and they need to maintain and care for all the animals and sea creatures under their care. Many of these institutions are all devoted to conservation and environmental issues both in and out of their communities and their efforts can make a big impact.
The Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk is no exception. They educate our community and raise awareness around the ecosystem of Long Island sound “officially designated an Estuary of National Significance, and a veritable rain forest of the sea, rich in aquatic life.” The Aquarium also has a variety of active conservation programs that are having a real impact both on Long Island Sound and aquatic areas beyond it.
We at MRK are just trying to do whatever we can on this very important day, Earth Day, every little bit helps. So, tomorrow, April 22nd, we will donate 15% of all sale proceeds on our website monicarichkosann.com to the Maritime Aquarium in Norwalk, CT.
